A note about what you share on this website

Please DO NOT share confidential (e.g., social insurance number, driver’s license number, etc.), financial (e.g., credits cards, bank accounts, etc.), or exact location (e.g., your physical mailing/home address) information anywhere on this website.

This website doesn’t currently offer direct purchases, but does provide links to retailers (who are responsible for financial transactions; e.g., Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Noble, etc.) and secure download sites (e.g., BookFunnel) for eBook files and other digital content. Visitors are responsible for reviewing the policies at the linked websites before using their services or providing them with any personal information.

Please be respectful with any content you share in forms, emails, and comment sections (if offered on this website). We reserve the right to ignore or delete any content we deem discriminatory, hateful, harassing, threatening, or inappropriate; This content may result in account suspension or deletion for the associated user, if applicable.

Avoid uploading images to this website with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to websites can download and extract any location data (e.g., EXIF data) from images. If you’re unsure about or uncomfortable with this, don’t share an image on this website, by email, or with any of the linked services.

The information you share with and is collected by this website and the associated newsletter service (e.g., MailerLite) is used to help offer services, communicate and interact with visitors (e.g., newsletters, forms, and comment sections), and optimize the website and associated newsletters (e.g., determining which pages are getting visits and which links are getting clicks, and identifying the best times to send emails based on generalized time zones of subscribers, etc.).

Your data

The types of data we collect
We may collect certain personal data from users to provide services to visitors (e.g., newsletters and requests for contact), enhance the website experience for our visitors, and inform website improvements. The data we collect includes information you willingly provide when you complete website forms (e.g., email address, contact name, and message/comments) and anonymized session data collected through the web service provider (e.g., IP address and pages visited) and cookies (see the section on Cookies, below, for additional details).

Who we share your data with
We aren’t fans of sharing other people’s information and will not share your information with third-parties (unless given explicit consent by you to do so); however, your data may be shared with law enforcement, if legally required.

How long we retain your data
Website and newsletter data is stored only as long as is required for its intended purposes, unless requested to be deleted or storage space is limited (in which case the oldest data will be removed first and as needed). Newsletter subscription data may be purged occasionally to remove inactive or bouncing subscribers, as needed. Please be sure to keep your subscription information up-to-date to keep receiving newsletters! These terms may change as our services and offerings evolve (e.g., if this website offers log-in, commenting, or direct purchasing services) and to ensure adherence to ever-evolving data retention best practices.

What rights you have over your data
You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes. You cannot request information on behalf of another person, unless legally permitted to do so (legal evidence will be required).

Where your data is sent/stored
Website data collected from visitors is stored on and protected by Hostinger’s secure data servers. Find out more about Hostinger and their policies at hostinger.com.

Newsletter sign-up information you provide is exported to and stored on our newsletter platform’s (MailerLite) secure servers. Examples of subscriber data collected and stored on Mailerlite’s servers may include: information you provide (e.g., name/nickname, email address, confirmation of consent, and in-email forms), IP address (helps schedule newsletters accordingly, be mindful of respective email and marketing regulations, and reduce spam/bot sign-ups), and interaction information (i.e., if an email was opened and if links were clicked). MailerLite’s privacy policy is available at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. Also see “Active cookies on this website” and “Embedded Content” under the Cookies section (below).

Contact information (i.e., email address and name/nickname) you provide on this website, Mailerlite, or any other associated forms may be shared with our account on a secure email service provider (e.g., Zoho) when a direct email response is necessary, and our BookFunnel account when we send requested digital content (e.g., ebooks and other bonus content, etc.). You are responsible for reviewing your email service provider’s and BookFunnel’s (bookfunnel.com/privacy) privacy policies prior to using their services. Please be sure to keep your contact information up to date to ensure continuity of services.

Cache
This site utilizes caching in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. All cache files are temporary, and are never accessed by any third party, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator, but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary. We may use QUIC.cloud services to process & cache your data temporarily. Please see quic.cloud/privacy-policy/ for more details.

Cookies

What are cookies? They’re fantastic (and perhaps evil) baked goods that often provide a good dose of chocolate, butter, and sugar. Oops, wrong type of cookies. Cookies are bonus material often provided as a reward for followers and fans. Wait, that’s not the right type of cookie either. The type of cookies we’re looking for here are little bundles of information stored in your browser, device, servers, and/or cloud services that make revisiting websites, logging in, and purchasing items faster and easier.

Some cookies, called essential or functional cookies, are required for a website to work properly. These cookies do things like save user preferences, log-in information, and shopping cart items during and between sessions.

Other, bonus cookies (non-essential cookies) can do things like help understand how visitors use the website (e.g., which pages they visit, how long they visit each page, what links they click on, etc.), provide customized advertising, and connect website activities with third-party platforms (e.g., social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube). Many websites give you the option to accept or refuse the non-essential cookies.

Want to learn more? Wikipedia has a detailed explanation about cookies here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie. There are probably lots of other great resources online, but Wikipedia is a good start.

Managing cookies
Each web browser (e.g., Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.) and device has its own process for blocking, storing, and deleting cookies. Check the instructions for your specific browser and/or device for managing your cookies.

Cookies on this website
When you first visit this website, you will be asked if you want to allow this website’s cookies or not. Non-essential cookies won’t be active until you consent to their use by clicking the option to accept cookies. If you accept, the website will remember your response for 365 days (or less if you tell your browser/device to delete your cookies or if new cookies requiring consent have been added to the website). This website aims to keep cookies to a minimum (the website cookies, not the yummy cookies… those are always welcome in any number).

The following cookies are used with this website (either directly or indirectly):

  • Essential/Functional Cookies: The following groups of cookies (or website Plug-ins) ensure optimal functioning of the website and its components (e.g., optimizing and displaying visual elements, layout changes relative to visitor’s device or device orientation, etc.): WordPress, Kadence Blocks, Generate Blocks, Spectra, Query Monitor, and LiteSpeed.
  • Complianz (essential/functional cookie): The website cookie consent notice remembers if you’ve opted to allow or refuse cookies on this website and acts accordingly. Your selection is remembered for 365 days or until you tell your browser to delete the cookies or new cookies have been added to the website. Find out more about Complianz at complianz.io.
  • Google Fonts (third-party cookie): Displays website text using fonts provided by Google Fonts. Find out more about Google Fonts at fonts.google.com.
  • MailerLite (Newsletters): We use MailerLite to manage our email marketing subscriber list and to send emails to our subscribers (newsletters) and have embedded our newsletter sign-up form on this website (see “Embedded Content”, below). MailerLite is a third-party provider, which may process your data using industry-standard technologies to help us monitor and improve the newsletters. MailerLite’s privacy policy is available at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy. You can unsubscribe from the newsletters by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the end (or top) of each newsletter. For information on the data they collect, see the section “Where your data is sent” under Your Data (above).
  • Embedded Content: This website and associated newsletters may include embedded content [e.g. Mailerlite newsletter sign-up form, other external forms, videos (Youtube, Facebook, etc.), images, articles, etc.]. Interacting with embedded content from other websites behaves as if you visited their website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that content’s website. Visit the embedded content’s website’s privacy policies to learn more.
  • Affiliate links: This website and associated newsletters may include affiliate links to retailers (e.g., Amazon, Apple, etc.). These retailers offer small commissions for sales associated with the affiliate links, which requires temporary cookies. Affiliate links will be labelled and explained when they occur.
  • Social links: This website and newsletters may contain links to social media platforms. These platforms may use cookies and collect personal data, which is beyond the control of this site. Please review the relevant social media platform’s policies prior to accessing their services.
  • Additional cookies may be added to this website in the future (this page will be updated accordingly).
